Aquage Boar Bristle Brush

When friends rave about a product, I'm all ears.  Last night, while out with friends, a new acquaintance went on and on (in a good way) about the Aquage Boar Bristle brush.  Here's the scoop:

It will not yank your hair out or hurt your scalp when brushing.
(perfect for sensitive heads)

Detangles thick, curly, and textured hair.

Smoothes and defrizzes wavy and curly hair when blow drying.

Eliminates static (good to know, going into fall/winter)

Like the Mason Pearson brush, it redistributes natural oils from root to tip, allowing you to wash it less while making hair healthier, shinier.

It's about $30 and available at local salons and online.

*For our St. Louis readers, it's available at Dominic Michael in Clayton.

GiGI Professional Brazilian Waxing Kit

I'm a big fan of laser hair removal.  It's perfect for small areas; bikini and underarms.  The laser treatments are over in minutes and the time between appointments is usually 8-10 weeks.  Large areas, like legs or backs (for men), on the other hand, are a different story.  Legs can take several hours and several consecutive sessions depending on how well you can tolerate the pain.  No thank you.  Again, I really love laser hair removal, and I really hate leg hair, but not enough to endure hours to piercing pain.  My girlfriend recently bought the GiGi Professional Brazilian Waxing Kit on Amazon and she loves it!  She uses it on her bikini line.  There are no strips of cloth, the wax dries to hard "shell" and then you pull it off.  How, I wondered, did she do that by herself?  Well, it turns out she has her husband do it.  Say what??!!!  I would never, in a million years let my husband (who has difficulty changing light bulbs) wax me.  However, I think I can wax my own legs.  I know I can.  Apparently the kit is really user friendly and comes with everything you need plus an instructional DVD (man to wax you NOT included).  It's only $45 so I'm going for it!  Has anyone else tried home waxing?  How did it go?  Please share your stories.  Of course I'll be sharing mine.  Wish me luck!

The Ins and Outs of Fall: Makeup

We've selected the most current trends and best products for flawless fall faces.  Just like the fashion trends, this fall's makeup is all about looking pretty and polished and  most of all, ladylike.

(and of course our favorite makeup artist, Julie Burr from Laura Mercier, shares her pics for Laura's newest products on how to apply them)

Eyes

In: The classic smokey eye.  Use Laura Mercier Sateen Cream Color smoothed all over the eye with your finger.  Then, using the Caviar liner, smudge over the bottom eyelid, close to the lash.  This combination will last all day and night.

Thick lashes.  Laura Merier has never been know for mascara but new Full Blown Lash Volume Thickening Mascara is awesome and will not get dry or flaky!

Out: Glitter on the eyes.

Lips-

In: Deep red wine shades.  Sheer color.  Try Black Cherry Cream Lip Color from the new  Black Velvet Collection.

Out:  Bright pink lips.

Skin-

In: Porcelain matte finish.  The key is shine control.  Keep Bare Minerals Shine Control Sheets in your purse.  They work great.

Out: The dewy look

Finishing Touches: OPI Diva of Geneva nail polish from the Swiss collection fall/winter 2010.

The Ins and Outs of Fall: Hair Styles

This is the first in a series of posts that highlight what's in and what's out for Fall 2010.  This Fall/Winter season is all about natural, healthy, and low maintenance styles.

In: Loose natural waves or curls.  Out: Super straight, flat ironed hair.

In: Low (loose or sleek) ponytails.  Out: Messy buns with pieces pulled out (so contrived)

In: Long layers.  Out: Short blunt and choppy layers.

In: Deep rich colors (not necessarily dark!)  Out: Sun-bleached colors.

Flawless Skin Eye Serum

Editor Exploit!

I recently turn 30 and decided that it was time to get serious about age-proofing my eyes.  I'm beginning to get the trifecta: dark circles, fine lines, and puffy undereyes.  I'm horrified just talking about.  I've been searching the drugstore aisles, specialty cosmetic stores, internet, and friend's medicine cabinets for that perfect product that will keep me looking 30 forever!  I got great recommendations for wrinkle creams and dark circle removers, tips on using tea bags and other caffeine products to reduce puffiness but I really didn't want to buy or do three different things to address the assaults on my eyes.  At a recent trip to the Laura Mercier counter to refill my tinted moisturizer, I tested the Flawless Skin eye serum and alas!  I have found my perfect product!  So far, so great!  Even my husband notices the difference.  It delivers on all three fronts and it also has iridescence to immediately brighten the eyes.

Keep Cool

Seems like everywhere I go I keep hearing about the Goody simple styles Spin Pin.  It's a spiral-like hair accessory that in seconds allows you to spin your hair into a bun (no mirror needed).  Perfect for these hot summer days and so much cuter than the old ponytail.  It works, REALLY.  At Target.

NEW! Bisque Tinted Moisturizer from Laura Mercier

For years I've been blending two shades (Nude and Sand) of my favorite product ever: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.  Recently Laura came out with a new shade, Bisque, which is the perfect combination of the two and blends flawlessly with light to neutral skin tones.  Yay!
