Latisse

Maybe you've heard or seen the adds for Latisse (the first and only FDA approved- eyelash growth treatment), maybe not.  I was talked into buying it at my last visit to the med spa (for laser hair removal), and OH MY GOODNESS, this stuff works!!  I had, as they say, "inadequate eyelashes".  They were short, straight, blond, and thin.  Inadequate indeed.  Now I'm two months in (it takes 4 months to see the full benefit) an they are AWESOME!  Long, dark, thick, and the curl up so I don't have to use an eyelash curler.  I brush the "solution" on every night before bed.  There's no stinging, smell, or anything unpleasant.  I'm hooked!!

RODIN olio lusso

I typically don't like to post a product that I have not personally tried but this product has been on my "WISH" list for a while now.  I have heard, first hand from the girls at Lusso that they are "in love" with this all natural beauty line.  I plan to make the investment myself as soon as my current moisturizing product is ready to be tossed.  If you have used one of these products, please send us your thoughts...is it a must-have or do you recommend something even better?

A little bit about olio lusso:

Olio Lusso was created by Linda Rodin, stylist and former fashion editor for Harper's Bazaar, to satisfy what she felt was missing in the anti-aging skin care market. This elixir has a strong following among fashion and beauty insiders as a miracle oil for women of all ages who seek beautiful, dewy skin that conveys an extraordinary sense of well-being. Made with an exclusive, aromatic blend of 11 essential oils to soothe and soften the skin. Blended together, they leave the skin looking and feeling instantly supple, radiant and hydrated. RODIN olio lusso is more than a liquid moisturizer. It is a skin scent that is chemical free, and makes your skin the best it can be naturally.

Merino Cool

by Essie

Girlfriends are the only one's who appreciate the clever color names Essie and OPI come up with for our fingers and toes.  However, I can't help myself but to share them with my husband purely for the classic eye roll that I receive.  Our two favorite "cool" weather colors are the NEW Merino Cool by Essie and for the 3rd year in a row, You Don't Know Jacques by OPI.

Thanks Katie (one of the BEST manicurists in STL) for the "hottest new color" tip.

Kerstin Florian: Special Care

Posted by Amanda

Recently I got a facial at The Spa at The Four Seasons and my skin has been glowing ever since.  At the end of the facial I was given a little pamphlet listing all the products that were used (they were all amazing and, of course, I wanted every one them!)  Sadly, within that little pamphlet was over five hundred dollars in Kerstin Florian products.  Ouch!  Well, I went home and did some research, trying to find which products would give me the most bang for my buck and keep my skin looking "facial-esque."  Here's what I learned...

The exfoliants and masques are classified as "special care" products.  I like "special" and I tend to think that many cleansers are created equal and you shouldn't have to spend a fortune on a good cleanser.    I also like that the special care are to be used 1-2 times a week, so they'll last pretty long.  I think that a great moisturizer is a must but I was disappointed that the Rehydrating Liposome Day Creme was only 1.7 oz. and I have to admit that as the day wore on, my skin was a little shinier than I like.  I love my Laura Mercier eye serum so I'm good on that front.  I don't currently use a masque and I believe that good exfoliation might be the most essential part of healthy, glowing skin.  I have "normal" skin, as in, it's not dry or sensitive, and not too oily either.  The aesthetician used Rehydrating Gommage Vegetal- Moisturizing Exfoliant, and Clarifying Vita-Marine Masque - Deep Cleanses, Evens Skin Tone.  I love the results, I don't feel guilty about the cost, and since it's only 1-2 times a week, I can completely keep up!

If you have "normal" skin too and have questions about what else she used, let me know.  I'll email you the list.  Also, does anyone else use Kerstin Florian products?  What do you think? Any standout favorites?

Crazy Hair Day

Are you like me and have an ongoing battle managing dry, frizzy, fly away hair? As luck would have it, a very persuasive salesperson at my local beauty retailer suggested I try a new product, Macadamia Natural Oil. She promised I would love it and if not, return it. One month later, I have to say I'm very happy with the results.  Not only does it manage my crazy hair, it adds shine and protects it from the multiple heating elements that I impose on my pretty hair.  I would not recommend (as the directions state) using it on dry hair - it made my hair look oily and weighted down. That's just me. For best results, use a dime size amount in the palm of your hand and work it through wet or damp hair.  Style as usual.  Finally, an all-in-one product that works.

Aquage Boar Bristle Brush

When friends rave about a product, I'm all ears.  Last night, while out with friends, a new acquaintance went on and on (in a good way) about the Aquage Boar Bristle brush.  Here's the scoop:

It will not yank your hair out or hurt your scalp when brushing.
(perfect for sensitive heads)

Detangles thick, curly, and textured hair.

Smoothes and defrizzes wavy and curly hair when blow drying.

Eliminates static (good to know, going into fall/winter)

Like the Mason Pearson brush, it redistributes natural oils from root to tip, allowing you to wash it less while making hair healthier, shinier.

It's about $30 and available at local salons and online.

*For our St. Louis readers, it's available at Dominic Michael in Clayton.
