Portable North Pole

Send a message from St. Nick through Portable North Pole.  No, really!  Santa will personalize a video message for your little one and send it via email.  My children (3 and 8) went crazy when they got Santa's email and they've been "good little boys" ever since!!  It only takes a few minutes, and it' free!  http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/home

Harry Potter Hogwarts

Game

My boys are loving this new LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts game.  Not only did they enjoy building the 3-D Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry out of LEGOs they love moving the secret staircases and passageways to attend lessons, cast spells, mix potions, fly on broomsticks, and complete tasks to earn points.  The first to collect all the items needed to complete their homework and return to their common room wins the game.

If your child is not a fan of Harry Potter but LOVES LEGOS ---CREATIONARY is another LEGO game where you can show off your building skills, while the others guess what you are creating. A great game for family and friends to test your imagination, creativity, building and guessing skills.

Available at ToysRUs, Target, Walmart

Hexbugs

I have been seeing HEXBUGS everywhere!  My brother in-law (thanks J.P.) got them for his teenage kids last year so I'm a little delayed on my discovery of these little robotic creatures but I have to say my favorite, "the Nano" will be my ultimate kid-cool stocking stuffer this year. Also a great, under $10, birthday gift for boys and girls!!

Sold: Brookstone, Target, Amazon $7.99

BOGS Boots

Posted by Jodi

Growing up in snowy Ottawa, Canada, wintertime was a fact of life and we spent hours upon hours playing in the snow, skiing, sledding and making forts in our 'hood with our friends.  Now that I'm a mom in Saint Louis, where it snows maybe three times a year and is unfortunately on the damp and wet side the rest of the time, I have struggled to find the "right" winter boots for my kids - something not too cumbersome, comfy and definitely warm and dry.   And cute.  But "cute winter boots" seems to be a bit of an oxymoron, most boots are practical and nothing but.

I was so happy to stumble upon BOGS boots this summer in Toronto.  I think they are the best boots ever!  They are lightweight, narrow on top, and really warm and waterproof.  Neoprene lined, they are rated from 60F to -30F, they are super cute, super colorful, super comfy and super warm and dry.  Kids can pull them on without help, a huge bonus to busy parents and teachers.  And they are also perfect rain boots -the neoprene acts to keep feet the perfect temperature no matter what Mother Nature is dishing out!

They come in several styles, from tall boots with handles, to cute slip-ons and feature adorable and stylish patterns for boys, girls and grown-ups.  I got my daughter the black, orange and pink Dahlia style with the sweet fold-down cuff and decorative ribbon bow!  I can't wait for her to start wearing them!

Oobleck!

Our friend Mandy, a kindergarten teacher and super-mom, shares her recipe for Oobleck (yes, the same Oobleck from Dr. Seuss' Bartholomew and the Oobleck).  This is a great sensory activity for rainy days and just in time for Halloween Party fun.

This weekend I made two big batches of Oobleck.  One for my Kindergarten class and one for my kiddos at home.  It's so easy and the kids LOVE it.  It's just cornstarch and water.   I usually use about two containers of cornstarch and slowly add water while mixing with a wooden spoon.  The one for my kids at home I added orange food dye and put plastic spider rings inside.  It's meant to be a sensory exploration activity, so it does get messy.  However, when it dries it easily wipes clean with just water.  I usually keep it for a couple of days in an airtight container or Ziplock bag, then throw away.

Thanks Mandy!
